Abbeychart supports Just a Drop schools programme

The support of the Just a Drop charity by the British Water Cooler Association has encouraged another member to take give its backing.

Brendan Hanlon of Just A Drop is welcomed to Abbeychart’s offices by MD Mark Taylor

Member company, Abbeychart, invited Just a Drop’s head of fundraising and communications, Brendan Hanlon, to formally launch the company’s partnership with this charity.

Abbeychart is to support a school project in Kenya. Funds raised will fund a water source for a village whose children often miss school because a requirement is that they must each bring in three litres of water a day. For some, this is just not possible. Having access to clean, safe water will not only enable better attendance at Kikumini Primary School but will also improve health and hygiene for the community. The village is a few hours from Nairobi. Just a Drop’s project managers will also provide hygiene education as part of the project.

Mark Taylor, managing director of Abbeychart, said: “As a team, we are already developing ideas to fundraise with activities including cake mornings, scratch cards, ‘Tough Mudder’ events and weighing in our scrap metal and donating proceeds to the charity. Abbeychart is donating £1 of each order in a given month to the charity (so encouraging customers to join us) later this year”.

He added: “We have already supported this worthwhile cause via the BWCA’s activities and so we are pleased to be able to provide this additional boost to the charity through quite a different project. Our goal will be to fund this school project raising all of the £8,753 needed. I aim to be the first donor where I have kept back my Grand National winnings to go into this to get us started”.

Phillipa Atkinson-Clow, BWCA’s General Manager, commented: “The ripple effect from our support of the charity has been gratifying and this initiative by Abbeychart is a fine example of the kind of social sustainability that we envisaged. In addition to assisting a good cause, the ideas being adopted by Abbeychart also support workplace sustainability, as it provides valuable bonding for employees as they raise monies for Just a Drop. We congratulate the company on the initiative.”
