Scotland DRS scheme held back by 10 months

The Scottish government has recently announced that the proposed Deposit Return Scheme (DRS), originally scheduled to go live in August 2023, will be delayed by up to 10 months.

The Vending and Automatic Retail Association (AVA) said: “Whilst any delay with any legislation is never ideal, these extra 10 months will allow vendors throughout Scotland more time to prepare for the DRS scheme, and make sure they have the sufficient processes in place for when it does go live.”

Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf said he wanted to ’re-set’ the Scottish government’s relationship with business. He explained: “We will use that additional time to work with businesses, and Circularity Scotland, to address concerns with the scheme and ensure a successful launch next year.”
