The shift towards contactless payment in vending has established itself as the dominant mode of transaction among modern consumers, according to the recent AVA census. Cashless transactions have brought monumental changes in the vending industry, rendering old-school cash payments a diminishing preference.
A remarkable 65% of all vending machines now provide cashless payment options. This figure signifies a significant leap of 20% compared with the preceding year, furthering this trend within the industry. In parallel with this expansion, a phenomenal 72% of all vending transactions are now cash-free, underscoring consumer’s inclination towards convenient and contactless methods of payment.
Interestingly, the AVA census data further shares insights into consumer behaviour within stores. 58% of shoppers within stores are reported to utilise contactless cards for transactions – a rate that has grown by an impressive 94% year on year. This surge dramatically demonstrates a clear consumer preference for efficient, contactless transactions.
It is clear that the vending and automated retail industry will persistently witness this trend extending into 2024 and beyond. The introduction of newer, more seamless payment methods by both consumers and providers proves the industry’s capacity for embracing technological innovation. As convenience continues to drive consumer choices, the rise of contactless transactions will only accelerate.
