Vending waves good bye to the round pound

Last month, the UK said good bye to the round pound as it ceased to be legal tender.

The Automatic Vending Association played an important role from the beginning of the consultation process on the new £1 coin through to its approval and design. The AVA worked in close collaboration with the Royal Mint, playing a key role in the new coin’s 12-sided shape.

Jonathan Hart, chief executive of the AVA, said: “We believe that all machines owned by AVA members are now accepting the new £1 coin. The AVA has been working closely with the Mint throughout the planning of the new £1 coin – including literally helping shape it so that it rolled in machines – and we have kept our members up to date on developments throughout the process.”
