United Biscuits (UBUK), a leading manufacturer of snacks, biscuits and cakes, is launching a diverse range of promotions, new products and reformulations to drive awareness and sales of its bagged snacks in 2010. An engaging Hula Hoops charity on-pack promotion and consumer event, a popular new addition to the McCoy’s range and further saturated fat reduction and a raft of new Phileas Fogg products all form part of actioned-packed start to 2010. They have been designed to support growth across all channels.
Jumping through Hoops
To grow sales and drive awareness of the £79m Hula Hoops brand, United Biscuits has partnered with Sport Relief to set a new World Record for the most people hula hooping in different locations at the same time. Creating 16 Hula Hoops Hoopathons across the UK at the flagship Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile Events on the 21 March, the charity partnership will include an on-pack donation mechanic that sees UBUK donate £1 every time consumers donate to the campaign via text or online using the barcode on special Sport Relief packs.
A new £1m TV advertising campaign, promotion on-pack, in-store activity, online advertising and consumer PR are supporting the partnership, while Hula Hooping celebrities will be enlisted to maximise exposure of the campaign. POS packs communicating the partnership will be available from the middle of January. To take part in the Hula Hoops Hoopathon, consumers simply have to log onto www.hulahoops.com and register at their nearest event.
Sizzling sales from McCoy’s
Following on from a busy 2009, in 2010 McCoy’s is introducing a new Bacon Sizzler handy pack to its core offering. Available at an MRRP of 55p, the full impact flavour is a great addition to the range and sure to be popular with both loyal followers of the ‘Man Crisps’ brand and new consumers. Following its successful addition to the core McCoy’s handy pack range in 2009, a Sizzling King Prawn multipack (MRRP £1.79) will be introduced from January. UBUK will also refresh the current ‘Meaty’ 6 pack multipack (MRRP £1.79) with the addition of the New Bacon Sizzler alongside other flavours of Flame Grilled Steak and Thai Sweet Chicken packs.
McCoy’s is also responding to health concerns once again by reducing saturated fat content by a further 30% whilst remaining the same great taste. A similar reduction at the beginning of 2009 has helped to grow the brand’s sales of £88m.
