Marathon effort raises £12,000

Managing Director of Aimia Foods, Rob Unsworth, recently completed the New York Marathon with four colleagues, raising £12,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Rob ran in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and secured donations of over £3,000 through a Justgiving site alone. The Aimia team, which also included Malcolm Downing, Jan Roughneen, Phil Smith and Steve Howard, would like to thank their customers, suppliers, employees and friends who generously donated towards this good cause.

Rob said: “I completed the full 26 miles, 385 yards course in just over six hours and crossed the finishing line feeling exhausted but elated.  Although we finished the run just outside our target time of three hours, we managed to achieve a lot for our charities, which is the important thing. It’s definitely something that everyone should experience once in their lifetime – it was an incredible day.”

The notoriously challenging marathon, which is one of the largest spectator sporting events in the world, requires runners to take on hills and bridges throughout the city, before finishing in Manhattan’s Central Park.

Although quips have been made about moving on to the Tokyo Marathon next year, Rob insists this is no more than a joke and that the team is simply focusing on completing the fundraising effort for this year. It is still not too late to make a donation to Aimia’s worthwhile causes and donations would be gratefully received at the Aimia office or at www.justgiving.com/XXX.
