The British Water Cooler Association is well on the way to funding a fourth borehole in Zambia to provide clean water to villagers who have had no access to clean water.
At the 2018 conference, trade show and gala dinner, the BWCA raised a further £7000 in addition to the £30,000 raised previously.
Commenting on the background to the links between Just a Drop and BWCA, Phillipa Atkinson-Clow, general manager of the BWCA said: “On a single day in 2016 something astonishing happened. The launch of what we thought would be the start of a year-long campaign achieved success in less than 24 hours. That campaign was a fundraising programme to raise money for our newly chosen charity, Just a Drop, in order to create a water source for a village in Africa.”
And so began a programme of work which forms part of the BWCA’s 5 for 5 Sustainability Pledge.
Phillipa added that BWCA members have continued to raise money in imaginative ways in addition to supporting those activities organised by the Association. Until the 2018 conference the BWCA had raised £30,000. In 2018, BWCA will be delivering two further borehole safe water projects in Zambia.
Speaking at the BWCA conference in Nottingham on March 8, Brendan Hanlon of Just a Drop, told delegates: “This year you are creating two more communities that will be healthier thanks to having clean water sources. Another 430 people will be able to access clean water. As they are healthier, children will be able to spend more time at school, and women of these villages will have improved productivity, spending more time following other productive pursuits, improving lives into the future”.
