BAA Recycling Initiative takes-off

Huhtamaki teamed-up with customer Costa to help BAA launch their recycling initiative at Heathrow’s Compass Centre, which saw the creation of a one-of-a-kind aeroplane by recycling artist, Michelle Reader.

Commissioned by BAA to mark the introduction of new waste recycling facilities in support of Heathrow’s recycling target, the unique Costa Cup Airbus A380 aircraft has been made using a variety of recycled materials as well as Huhtamaki paper hot cups, which are recyclable.

Emblazoned with the branding of the nation’s favourite coffee shop, the sculpture was just the ticket to symbolise the changes occurring around waste recycling; encouraging staff and visitors to think about the environment and the impact of their actions.

Bins throughout the Compass Centre now encourage recycling and include the segregation and collection of office paper, food waste and ‘dry mixed recyclables’ – card, glass, plastic and cans – in addition to general waste.
